Bitmap |
A grid of pixels or printed dots generated by computer to depict photographs and images. TIF, JPG, GIF are examples of bitmaps. |
Blanket |
A rubber-coated pad which is mounted on a cylinder of an offset litho press. The blanked receives the image from the printing plate and transfers it to the paper. |
Bleed |
Printed area which extends to, or over, the edge of the sheet after final trimming. |
Blow up |
To enlarge a photograph or image. |
Board |
Term used by printers for heavier weight paper. Board is commonly used for business cards, post cards etc. |
Bond |
Type of paper which is mainly used for letterheads, compliment slips, writing paper and photocopying. |
Border |
A decorative area which surrounds the main print. Often used on invitations. Bullet Point - Usually a dot. Used to emphasize or highlight text. |
Bulk |
Refers to the thickness of a sheet. |
Butt register |
An area of the printed sheet where two colour's meet with no overlapping or space between them. |
Byte |
Unit of computer memory needed to store a single character of data. |
