Term Definition
Film Positive or negative films are used to make lithographic plates which are used in the litho printing process.
Fine screen Screen ruling of 150 lines per inch or more.
Finished size Final size of a printed job or sheet after it has been cut.
Flat colour A colour which is created by using a single ink as opposed to full colour printing which uses four colour's to generate the final image.
Foil embossing Also called foil blocking. The process of foil stamping an embossed image onto the sheet.
Folder Machine used to fold printed sheets.
Font Style of type (or text) characters such as Times Roman.
Format The overall size, shape and layout of a printed product.
Form roller(s) Rollers which transfer ink or water to the surface of the printing plate.
Fountain The container on a printing press which holds the ink or water.
Fountain solution A mix of water and chemicals which is applied to the printing plate and prevents ink from spreading to non image areas.
Four colour process printing The process of using CMYK inks to produce full colour images. Also called full colour printing.
